A beautiful part of Hobart where our past customers have stayed to see is the Salamanca Markets which is open on Saturdays from 8:30am-3pm. The markets are situated on Salamanca Place in Sullivans Cove. There is a long row of stylish Georgian sandstone warehouses, which were built in the 1830s. The buildings are now used for bars, bookshops, restaurants, outdoor cafes, art studios, galleries, jewellers and boutiques although they still hold a remarkable piece of Tasmanian heritage and modernisation. Opposite the markets are beautiful green lawns and shaded park benches. Salamanca Square is behind Salamanca Place where you can have a perfectly relaxing time with children and friends where you can enjoy a great cup of coffee, muffin and enjoy some outdoor entertainment from many of the locals. The Derwent River is right near the markets where you can have a bite to eat or enjoy some afternoon tea by the river.
If you want to discover breathtaking views then we suggest that you go to Mount Wellington. Mount Wellington has by far the best view in Tasmania. There are exciting bush walk tracks to take on the bottom however you cannot miss the top! Bushwalking trails suit all fitness levels and barbecue and picnic facilities are provided. It is here where you can see a glimpse of Tasmanias beautiful natural outback and unique plantation. Many visitors go to Mount Wellington to view the fantastic panoramic views of Hobart, Bruny Island, South Arm and the Tasman Peninsula. From the bottom it takes approximately 21 kilometres to drive to the summit. The bottom of the Mountain, which is called Wellington Park, is home to a great rainforest climate. However on the mountain the climate and scenery changes to a much cooler temperature and here you can see glacial rock and sub-alpine rock. The interpretation centre at the top of Mount Wellington protects you from the piercing winds. There is an observation platform on the western side of the car park, which looks out to the southern World Heritage Area beyond. There are various activities that you can take part in at both the park and the mountain which include cycling, abseiling, bushwalking, climbing and sightseeing opportunities. Here you can also take part in one of Australias most challenging and exciting alpine cycle rides.
A must see destination in Tasmania is the world heritage listed Cradle Mountain. Cradle Mountain itself is part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

Only 1.5 hours away from Hobart is Tasmanias best physical record of convict history in Australia is Port Arthur. Port Arthur is a nationally recognised symbol of Australias convict past. All of the buildings and features of Port Arthur have a story of history to tell visitors. The gardens are beautiful and the prison is a must see when you visit. The Port Arthur site has over thirty buildings, over 30 ruins and reinstated period furnished homes surrounded by gorgeous landscaped grounds. The Port Arthur site consists of more than 100 hectares and approximately 40 hectares can be seen by the public. We recommend half a day to have a look at all the great attractions here and to enjoy the refreshingly cool southern air. For children this site is a great opportunity for children to get a rare hands on experience with history and many children can enjoy fun learning experiences at the Lottery for Life interpretation gallery. Many like to go and read the plaque at the memorial gardens which take visitors back to the Port Arthur Massacre. The wonderful range of pick and grey granite peaks, blue sea, perfect curved white bay sand all form a stunning picture of the beautiful Wineglass Bay. Wineglass bay was named one of the top 10 favourite beaches in the world and you have to see it to really draw in its tranquillity and beauty. The Bay has been said to look like a perfect shaped half moon. Surrounding the Bay is Freycinet National Park where you can take a peak at the crowded forests, wildflowers and interesting native wildlife.
One of the worlds great railway journeys would be the West Coast Wilderness Railway which is a historic 34 kilometre track. You can take a train ride daily from either Strahan or Queenstown. Light refreshments and lunches can be bought on the train or you can stop at a coffee shop when you leave or return from the train ride. The West Coast Wilderness Railway was made by 19th century west coast pioneers. The railway line consists of tight curves, astonishing bridges, beautiful dense rainforests and steep gorges. In the breathtaking dense forest at Dubbil Barril passengers can stop for a delicious bite to eat or take a walk through the forest trails. It is here where you can see spectacular creeks and take in some beauty of the astounding rainforest.
